ABOUT LEONARD:
Meet Leonard Ludovico
Canine Behavior Consultant & Founder of Dominant Dogs
Leonard Ludovico is a professional dog trainer and canine behavior consultant whose work is shaped by a lifetime of hands-on experience with dogs and a deep study of canine communication. His relationship-based approach focuses on clear leadership, calm structure, and helping dogs and owners live together in balance.
Leonard’s journey began at just six years old at Griffith Park, where he watched his brother struggle to train their family dog, Wendy. Sitting on a nearby bench, Leonard became fascinated by how dogs communicate without words. That early moment sparked a lifelong commitment to understanding dog body language, behavior, and how dogs experience the world from their own point of view.
A Life Dedicated to Understanding Dogs
At eighteen, Leonard began working full-time at an animal hospital, handling dogs experiencing fear, stress, and high-intensity situations. This environment taught him patience, compassion, and the importance of staying calm under pressure—skills that became the foundation of his work as a dog training professional serving Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and surrounding areas.
Through years of real-world experience, Leonard observed that fearful dogs often develop aggressive behaviors and that many owners struggle to find lasting solutions. This insight led to the creation of Dominant Dogs Boot Camp, a focused training program designed to help dogs build confidence, stability, and reliable manners while teaching owners how to maintain those results long-term.
Experience Influenced by Cesar Millan
Leonard worked with Cesar Millan over two decades ago and continues to apply relationship-based training principles that emphasize calm leadership, structure, and clear communication—concepts popularized through programs such as Dog Whisperer, Cesar 911, Better Human Better Dog, and Leader of the Pack.
Learning from Wolves and the Natural World
Leonard’s passion for animal behavior led him to New Mexico, where he observed wild wolves to better understand natural pack structure and communication. Watching how pack leaders guide and correct calmly—without chaos or force—deeply influenced his training philosophy.
His learning has also taken him abroad, including time spent observing animals alongside the Maasai tribe in Kenya, walking among lions, elephants, and wild dogs, and training with elephants in Thailand. These experiences reinforced a simple truth that guides his work today: meaningful behavior change begins with connection, clarity, and presence.

understanding how energy affects canine responses and behavior.
Advanced Stress Management (2010)
